Ponidays are upon us… (A Guide!)

NOTE: Reposting this, cause it’s that time of the year…

Yes, I tried to mix the words Holidays and Pony to make them sound more like me, and kind of failed miserably…

But still, a few days ago, I was checking my December entries from previous years, and I decided to make a little compilation on X-mas and holidays related posts I’ve done, along with some other kind of useful posts and topics. So here you go: The ultimate Pony guide for the holidays.

Guides

Your Ringo-ish guide to survive the holidays (x-mas edition) – I wrote this back in 2009, but it’s still current, and it’s still a helpful guide for making it through the high profile festivities without going crazy.

My daily Moleskine – A few years ago, I pulled together this tutorial on how to customize a pocket moleskine into a planner, GTD kind of thing. It’s a bit of work, but still really worth it, if you hate how the conventional planners are organized and you’d like to fix yourself with your own spaces. This year I don’t think I am going to do this from the very beginning, but I am taking a moleskine planner  and then I am customizing it a bit into something similar to this. I’ll let you guys know.

Questionnaires

The year in questions – 37 questions related to the year that’s just ending. Pro-tip: Answer this after christmas.

The best of… – straight forward questions highlighting the best of the year that’s just ending.

Both of these questionnaires are great and simple ways to make quick retrospectives of the year.

Goals

I am not one to tell you how to make and keep your goals, cause quite frankly I’m kind of an expert at not doing it, but still over the years, I’ve always liked to write down whatever I want to achieve during the upcoming year.

What are you planning for 2011? – If you’d like a bit of inspiration, here you have the list of goals and plans I did for 2011; a brief explanation on how I organize them, how I remind myself of them, a couple of techniques I use for internalizing them.

The 88 days project – This is a similar thing based on the fact that every 88 days the cells of your body are completely new cells than the ones forming you 88 earlier, therefore making you a whole new person. I still think it’s a neat way of renewing yourself and accepting new challenges every 88 days.

Gratefulness

This is something that I like to do, but hadn’t really picked it as a habit yet.

I constantly make these lists called Love List for the Ponicorn Soul, which pretty much are thankful lists for the things I love the most about my life. I started them as a way to remind myself of the good things going on in my life when I get depressed, but I think I might as well just write one at least once a month in the future.

LOVE

Also, I think I might write one of those for the whole year that is ending. If you want to do the same, up here you have a link to a specific list, but if you need a bit more inspiration, you can always check the Love List tag, as I sometimes make lists that won’t precisely fall in the Love List for the Ponicorn soul format, but still pretty much cover the same concept.

Websites to use

Good Reads – If you’re a reader, every year they organize a reading challenge, You set your own number of books you’d like to read. Next year I am going to 52!

Unfuck Your Habitat

UFYH – Short for Unfuck your habitat. As their slogan indicates: Terrifying motivation for lazy people with messy homes. If your room/home could use a little cleaning and organizing, this is the place to go. Hundreds of tips and techniques on how to start and remain organized.

Running for beginners – I am big on running, and even though I kind of dropped it for the year, I really want to pick it back. The first time I started doing it, this is the method I used. This link is full with a complete guide on how to go from 0 to 25 min running, videos on how to properly stretch, guides to buy good running shoes, etc.

In Class – Though not really a website, but an app for organizing your schedule, notes and homework. Incredibly useful if I say so myself. Sadly, it’s only available for IPad/IPhone.

And I am still on the search of a decent website or app for this, but just as I did during 2011, I am again doing a 52 movies a year challenge. I’ll have it  up on the tabs here for you to see as soon as I start.

Well, that’s it. It took me a bit to compose, but this is my guide for starting 2013, I hope you enjoy it and find it useful. You’ll see me posting a bit more about all these things in the following days.

Lots of holiday love!

Why is it so, that when I find the reasons, the wind comes and takes them from my hands, as if I didn’t deserve to know the why and who of the things that happen?
They say all I need is to react and act, and not care too much as to where life takes me, but I care, and I can’t seem to help concerning about the time it will finally catch up with my soul and I stop breathing…

Bursts…

“… And then you come and love me with your words, and hug me with your lips, and calm me with your hands. And I become this senseless mount of clay. I become and I transform, because your words reclaim me.”

Things that make me wonder…

I’m trying to get better… I might be able to make it work…

NaNoWriMo 2013

crest_square-1902dc8c2829c4d58f4cd667a59f9259As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I am going to take part of this year’s NaNoWriMo. For those of you who don’t really know what NaNoWriMo is, you can click here and you’ll be directed to a wiki entry that can explain it way better than I can. Ready? Did you read it? Ok, back to where we were, NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow, and it’s going to be a really demanding task, because:

  1. My job is really demanding, and I really don’t have a lot of free time.
  2. I am not going through the best moment in my life.
  3. My novel is going to be in Spanish and I’ve gone back and forth with the title and plot.
  4. This month it’s my birthday.
  5. In a couple of weeks there’s going to be a concert I really really want to go to.
  6. There are 2 parties I am already invited to.

But I am really looking forward to doing this. It’s been so long since the last time I took the time to write fiction, but I am really excited about having the chance of doing it right now.

If you’re going to take part of this year’s NaNoWriMo, feel free to add me as a friend.

This is some Info on the novel I am writing, feel free to answer it on your blog or the comments:

American Gothic

Grant_Wood_-_American_Gothic_-_Google_Art_Project

American Gothic. You know that painting by Grant Wood, right? With the couple (Which, Surprise, surprise! Are actually father and daughter, not husband and wife) representing the labor and domesticity of farm life, and that is considered iconic Americana? Of course you do!

Now, look at the house between them. Imagine it, about 3 stories and 10 times bigger, and of course, hundreds of times richer. And the tiny window between them? Well, that’s an attic, now picture in your head 4 kids (2 children and 2 teens) locked living there for years… without anyone knowing about them ‘cept the woman.

Ready, Got it? Are you on it? Well, my sweethearts, that’s what Flowers in the Attic feels like.

I started reading this book after Itzel gave it to Dany on her birthday, and none of them would stop talking about how good and intense it was. Apparently it’s Itzel’s favie book, and since we have a lot in common including but not limited to our passion for reading and even though I still have around 100 books pending to read on my Ipad, and I just bought Looking for Alaska and I really really want to get going on that one, I decided to start reading it after I finished Fahrenheit 451.

So far? So good… and So creepy.

For real! This story is listed as Gothic Horror and Family saga, which sort of means it’s about a family, and it has both horror and romance elements. I was a bit hesitant about reading it (because I get scared easily and the “horror” part really got me thinking) but so far I think it’s more creepy and disturbing than it is horror…

If you ask me, there’s a thin veil of erotica surrounding everything and anything, and since I am a huge fan of 70’s, 80’s and 90’s soft erotica’s aesthetics, It’s been both creepy and a delight to read it

Then again, I need to repeat it: So Far. Cause I am only halfway through Flowers, and I already know it’s a full on Saga. Yes, 5 Dollanganger books, and I can’t even begin to image the horrors those kids are yet to face… Count me on board!

Anyway, I still have about 200 pages ahead of me, and I really want to finish it as soon as possible, spoiler alert, I am 11 books behind on my 2013 book reading challenge, and that upsets me.

See you!

Firma

P.S. Have you noticed how I never tell you what the stories are about? Am I good at keeping spoilers from you or what?

The Ponicorn life in short sentences

Instagram

I’ve been busy. Not extremely, but still busy. I have work to do. I have things to finish for my web clients, and I have been takin training for my other job. Therefore, you are lacking updates here, in lieu of me, having updates IRL. Besides, I have not really been in the mood for a real post, so I am just going to update you on my life, with very short sentences… ok… paragraphs.

Captura de pantalla 2013-06-30 a las 03.54.47I am cleaning my room. Organizing my closet, and doing what would be called a “Summer Cleaning”. I might sell a bunch of stuff I have and never get to wear or use.

I am a bit angry at things that are either happening or not happening in my life (depending on the perspective). I am trying not to think about these things too much, cause they are still pretty raw. But yeah.

I think I finished my My Little Pony game. The ending was not all that cool, but I still want to get all of the ponies, so I might just continue to play it.

Captura de pantalla 2013-06-30 a las 03.55.02I finally got my copy of Looking for Alaska. I could’ve read it in English, but I am not a big fan of reading fiction in english. I can’t focus. Speaking of the book, I think I’ve never told you this, but, I am a big fan of loyalty and frequency cards. I have a card for all the places I normally visit, well I got one for the bookstore from which I got the book, AND, turns out I had all these nice points, that I could use for my purchase. Wanna know how much actual cash I ended up spending on this baby? Less than a freaking dollar. I feel like a real NerdFighter. #Nerdfighteria

Captura de pantalla 2013-06-30 a las 03.56.04I printed a bunch of pictures of me, my friends, my boyfriend and I, my cats, and other random things. I might get a couple of frames for some of them.

I got a Professional Digital Camera. I’ve been wanting one for a while, and I actually need it for school, so we’ll see.

I am thinking about starting a Youtube channel. I already have it, and I’ve been working the details, so you might see my face moving and speaking eventually. I am thinking about Spanish only though. I am still working it out.

Captura de pantalla 2013-06-30 a las 03.56.20A couple of weeks ago, some friends and I went to a comic convention here in my city, and even though I am not really an anime-girl, I have a soft spot for Sailor Moon among other things. Well, there was this guy who had a binder open with a bunch of anime cards on sleeves, and there were Sailor Moon cards. I really wanted to get a small souvenir for myself, so I started flipping through the pages, looking for a card I’d like to buy. Then, big surprise, he had a bunch of Utena cards in the back. I ended up buying 10, and the seller, gifted me with one. I love them.

Captura de pantalla 2013-06-30 a las 04.00.02Speaking of going out, I’ve been spending a lot of time with this gal right here. She’s my boss, and also a friend. Pretty much every weekend I’ve been going out with her, and it’s always been fun. Last weekend we watched Monsters University.

Today I went shopping. Sales! 6 cardigans (the ones I own are ripped already) 3 skirts, 3 shirts, and 2 pants. I am excited. I got pink pants!

I am planning on getting a bigger bed for my house. I sleep in a twin bed, and I think it’s time to make a transition. It’s gonna happen soon.

I guess there’s more, but I am a bit tired and I really need to sleep.

I was thinking about writing a bit about the way I organized my closet. I am not done yet, but maybe it could be a small series of  tips and lil tricks I implemented in my organization. What do you think? Would you like to see that? Let me know.

Quickie: Happening…

It’s that time again, It already happened once this year, and it’s about to happen again.

What am I talking about?

My eventual re-watch of the Twilight movies.

Don’t judge me, we all have our secret guilty pleasures in life. I can admit they are terrible movies, the books all suck as well, the whole franchise promotes sexists stereotypes, among a bunch of other ugly things I’ve taken my time to study. I am very aware of all of this…

…and still, from time to time, when I am feeling very down, I like to watch them again, and they somehow manage to make me happy.

So that’s it, Today I am not feeling like my usual perky self (as if), and I am going to start watching Twilight in about 20 minutes. I took a sleeping pill about 40 minutes ago, and I am already feeling sleepy, so I don’t even know if I’m gonna finish it, but… We’ll see…
