The Lizzie Bennet Diaries – My Theories
As I have mentioned before, I am watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, a modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. I was lucky enough to catch the series as it was starting, cause now they’re in Episode 47, and already have 2 spin-off series (One focusing on Lydia, and the other on Maria Lucas -Maria Lu in this adaptation).
I like the series big time, and you should totally watch it if you’re either an Austenite (Remember how I couldn’t find a term for Jane Austen Fans? Well I finally did), you’ve read the book, or watcher any of the movies. But if you don’t know any of the previously mentioned, or even if you’re following the series but hadn’t quite caught up with the rhythm, BEWARE, cause I am about to spoil your pants out.
My name is Kourai Aminoacido, and these are my Lizzie Bennet Diaries theories
Ever since I started watching I’ve been wondering how are they going to handle some details of the story, you know, since marriage doesn’t hold the same status and meaning it did on the time the story was written. Some of my questions have already been answered, for example:
– Mr. Collins proposing to Elizabeth, and then proposing to Charlotte Lucas, turned into Ricky Collins being this super annoying (yet adorkable) web video entrepreneur who offers Lizzie and very lucrative job proposition, and as she turns it down, ends up offering the same to Charlotte Lu.
I thought this was hella clever, since, well, if you think about it, in the book, marriage is considered kind of a job offering: It could improve your quality of life, your social status and give you economic stability. More than a Marriage, I consider it a Partnership, which is exactly what Ricky Collins offers to Charlotte, a partnership on his company Collins & Collins.
Anyway, there are two things in particular that I have been thinking about, and that I have already formed theories for:
- The way the “George Wickham + Lydia Bennet” thing will developed
- I really don’t see Darcy proposing to Lizzie out of the blue, cause, you know, that’s not how things work now, so, how are they going to handle it.
I’ve been giving it some thoughts, and this is how I think things could develop:
The Lydia + Wickham situation
I think Lydia is going to get pregnant, they are going to elope to Vegas, gamble a hell lot of money, getting the Bennet family in debt (I suspect some Identity theft going on). I think they’re going to be in Las Vegas for a few days, and then Darcy will go and make them get married, offering to pay their debts so they can come back. Then Wickham is going to get a job as a swimming trainer at a school far, far away, forcing them to leave. A job that Wickham will barely be able to hold because of his gambling and drinking problems.
The Lizzie + Darcy Situation
I think eventually Darcy will find out about the vlogs (Which coincidentally will confirm Jane’s feelings for Bing Lee). Do you remember the very first episodes when Lizzie said Darcy was some sort of rich heir of a giant entertainment company? I think he will eventually offer her a more lucrative job than Ricky Collins; doing something she actually likes, like… I don’t know, I am not even sure of what she’s fond of. But she’s going to make it big. And I think they will start a relationship and he will eventually propose (Much like I think Charlotte and Ricky will start one and eventually get married).
That’s it. I keep thinking about little details, like Gigi being pregnant with Wickham’s child, but losing the baby; Darcy sending Lizzie an e-mail instead of a letter, Catherine de Bourgh being this obnoxious actionist at Darcy’s company who threatens to withdraw her money if he offers a position to Lizzie instead of her daughter. It’s so exciting!!!
I am loving this series so much! Seriously guys, if you hadn’t seen it, go do it right now, it’s so good!!
